Ceramic Cobweb is Emily Hunt’s new business enterprise. The concept relates to delicate but firm cobwebs drawn between history, aesthetics, ornament, books and characters coming into being. Hunt has a hard~core appreciation for power rings, and decided to make her own to wear, beginning in late 2019.
"Digital Mood boards" describe Hunt’s "Trend Forecasts". She then creates new ceramic work around her neologisic theme, be that a series of edition rings, pendants or other applied art. The first theme, Techno Peasants, Hunt created characters that reflect her interest in comparing the pyramid of medieval feudalism (monarchs, landed gentry and lowly peasants) to that of contemporary dynamics of corporate feudalism (central banks, corporate elite and lowly workers).
When producing the rings she thought about Elizabeth Frink’s Goggle Head bronzes busts, crop cirles, Anne Ramsay, lichen, wenches, The Ugly Duchess painting by Quentin Matsys, old craft techniques, climate dread, Netherlandlish Art, the countryside, wrinkles around the mouth, Engywook, the dancing plague of 1518, monstrance, reliquary hands, citadel architecture, poisoning people, trollcore.
